Short cooldown nuke rotation — rapid ability cycling with reduced CDs.
"Theory is for scholars. Power is for Arcanists."
When a Mage reaches level 10 and you select Arcanist, two things change permanently:
Arcane Barrage: Rapid-fire arcane nukes on the highest-HP enemy at a shorter cooldown than base Arcane Surge. AP increases damage.
Arcanist grants the following ability score bonuses on top of the Mage base scores:
These bonuses stack with ability score points allocated from levelling. They cannot be removed without retiring the hero.
Magic (Pure Caster, Mana Surge, Arcane Torrent for double nuke), Crit.
See the Skill Tree deep dive for the full 120-node reference and routing advice, or the Mage build guide for a complete path recommendation for this class.
Both subclasses unlock at level 10. Compare them to choose:
| Arcanist | Pyromancer | |
|---|---|---|
| Identity | Short cooldown nuke rotation — rapid ability cycling with reduced CDs. | Burn DoT spreads to adjacent enemies and explodes on kill. |
| Stat Bonus | +2 Intelligence, +1 Spirit | +2 Intelligence, +1 Agility |

The choice is permanent — use a Scroll of Divergence consumable to re-select without retiring the hero.
Set an Archetype with Arcanist as the guild standard for Mage — all future recruits of that class will automatically receive this subclass at level 10 without any manual selection.
