Burn DoT spreads to adjacent enemies and explodes on kill.
"Everything burns if you know where to start."
When a Mage reaches level 10 and you select Pyromancer, two things change permanently:
Inferno: Sets all living enemies ablaze. Each cast applies a fresh, independent burn stack. AP increases burn damage per tick.
Pyromancer grants the following ability score bonuses on top of the Mage base scores:
These bonuses stack with ability score points allocated from levelling. They cannot be removed without retiring the hero.
Magic (Pure Caster, Mana Surge, Resonant Magic), Chaos (Venom Transmutation).
See the Skill Tree deep dive for the full 120-node reference and routing advice, or the Mage build guide for a complete path recommendation for this class.
Both subclasses unlock at level 10. Compare them to choose:
| Pyromancer | Arcanist | |
|---|---|---|
| Identity | Burn DoT spreads to adjacent enemies and explodes on kill. | Short cooldown nuke rotation — rapid ability cycling with reduced CDs. |
| Stat Bonus | +2 Intelligence, +1 Agility | +2 Intelligence, +1 Spirit |

The choice is permanent — use a Scroll of Divergence consumable to re-select without retiring the hero.
Set an Archetype with Pyromancer as the guild standard for Mage — all future recruits of that class will automatically receive this subclass at level 10 without any manual selection.
